CONNECTING CULTURES

“Connecting Cultures” is the new name for “Three Together/Drei Zusammen”. It is a multimedia-based qualitative research program aimed at promoting a dialogue between native Germans and Arabic-speaking new residents of Germany on everyday psychosocial topics. The program’s primary objective is to foster mutual understanding and common ground by initiating discussions between individuals of diverse cultural backgrounds.

Bashar al Nahhas

Al Nahhas was born in 1988 in Damascus, Syria. After finishing his university studies in Syria and due to the circumstances in war-torn Syria, he migrated to Germany in late 2015. He has been working with Global Health Equity Foundation on developing Connecting Cultures since its inception in 2019. Currently, he is working in Bonn at the Job Center and considers German his new home.

Christian van den Kerckhoff

Christian van den Kerckhoff is the managing director of the Bonn Institute for Migration (BIM). He is an anthropologist and worked abroad for UNICEF and UNHCR for several years before taking up the helm of the BIM. As having lived and worked in

 

different countries he is always fascinated by broadening his understanding of different cultures and peoples.

Hadi Jammoul

Hadi Jammoul is a 27-year-old International Management graduate. He completed his Bachelor- Thesis in cross cultural leadership. He grew up in Bonn, Germany and has Syrian roots. In 2018 he supervised several population surveys by telephone for the Arabic-speaking population in Germany at the Institute for Applied Social Sciences in Bonn. Since 2020, Jammoul worked with the Global Health Equity Foundation, managing different projects.

BIM

The Bonn Institute for Migration (BIM) is working on the issues of migration, integration and intercultural understanding since 1995. Founded as a research institute the practical realities soon led to BIM implementing large integration projects, building up a team of social workers and founding the MIGRApolis, an intercultural centre.

BIM’s goal is to improving the relationships between old and new inhabitants of Bonn

and to contribute to an open and tolerant society.

GHEF

Global Health Equity Foundation (GHEF) is a philanthropic organisation dedicated to

research, advocacy, and capacity building. The Foundation’s integrated approach raises awareness about inequities in health and provides practical guidelines for making tangible improvements in global health equity. GHEF is a primary resource for organisations building and sharing knowledge that reduces gradients and gaps in health equity. The Foundation explores new methodologies and technology that may be deployed to avert inequities. GHEF promotes the concept that equity in health is a core principle for the advancement of human society.
